Graces, the latest EP from Joey Chaos and The Ghosts, is the third and final in a cycle of releases beginning with Elegy(2019) and Immolation (2021). Leaning into themselves more than ever, Graces acts as the final panel of a triptych hovering at the periphery of industrial, grunge and darkwave. Marking a transition point for the band, their new release comes on the fall equinox, September 22, 2024.
The EP follows the trajectory of three fervent falls from grace. Crustin’ traces the fall of social graces under duress amidst the habituation of serial breakdowns. Swing Low is a searing anti-nuke jam witnessing the downfall of humanity against dictatorial whims. Graces climaxes with Bad Beat, a demonic tale of a hypocritical, ecclesiastical temptation teetering on the edge of lust and the divine. All three songs veer into the periphery of grunge, industrial and darkwave and are heavily inspired by the multitude of genres in Vancouver’s thriving underground music scene.
Graces was written, recorded and produced by Joey Chaos in the band’s East Vancouver studio and was mastered by the renowned engineer Greg Reely. The release will be celebrated with a performance at The Cobalt on September 29th alongside Rougaroux, a trans and Métis fronted six-piece band forever on the periphery of prog, post-punk and doom, and Phuture Memoriez, Vancouver’s resident balaclava adorned gonzo synth-punk industrialists.
